Macs Take Early Lead but Succumb to City Tech 6-2

Eddie Nuvakhov scored twice for Yeshiva
NEW YORK, NY – The Yeshiva men's soccer team jumped to a 1-0 lead 30 minutes into the game, and later fought back to tie the game at 2 in the 55th minute, but eventually fell to the visiting City Tech Yellow Jackets 6-2. The game was the first for City Tech and Yeshiva dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Elezir Nuvakhov (Eddie) scored both goals for Yeshiva, the first coming off the foot of Aryeh Rosenberg on a free kick. The ball was sent perfectly over the defense to a streaking Nuvakhov who jumped in the air and kicked the ball on a rope into the far side of the net. The score came at the 30:25 mark. As was the case all day, when the Yellow Jackets scored, they scored quickly, and Yeshiva found themselves down 2-1 after goals in the 35th and 36th minutes. The half ended with the 2-1 score in favor of the visitors.

Ten minutes into the second half, Eddie scored again, this time on a ball that was being passed around in the box and unable to be cleared by City Tech. Nuvakhov sent another rocket into the far corner to knot the score at 2. The lead was held for over 15 minutes until City Tech scored two quick goals at 70:50 and 71:08. The Yellow Jackets would add two more in the 85th and 89th minute to leave with the 6-2 win.

Defensively, the Macs gave City Tech fits all day, playing a smart defense that led to 30 offside calls on the Yellow Jackets. Joseph Blechner played all 90 minutes in goal making 3 saves for the Macs. Offensively, the Macs managed only 5 shots on goal for the game.

Yeshiva has a month between games, and will play next on October 5th against Skyline foe Farmingdale State. The road contest is scheduled for a 4PM start in Farmingdale, NY.
