NEW YORK, NY – The athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Brendan Donoghue as the next men's and women's cross country coach. Donoghue is a seasoned distance runner and an accomplished coach, having worked closely with many individuals to help prepare them for marathons and other races. Brendan also does many charity runs and volunteers time with multiple charity teams.
“I am very excited to have been chosen as the new cross country coach at Yeshiva University', said Brendan. “Even before my appointment, I could tell the teams were full of dedicated runners who have lots of potential. I feel great things are ahead for the teams, and I look forward to helping them achieve their goals while representing the University at meets with pride and honor.”
Originally from Ireland, Brendan began running competitively in 2005 and a year later started coaching runners who wanted to better their times and train for marathons. He has completed 13 marathons and hundreds of other races, while actively coaching nearly 30 runners and working with multiple charities on a volunteer basis.
Presently, Brendan works with Team Concern, a charity that raises money for cancer research. He has coached those teams since 2006, and in 2010 began working with OHEL, another charity team based out of Queens, NY. OHEL was established to protect and strengthen individuals and families by meeting the diverse social service needs of the community through programs of excellence.
“Brendan has shown great abilities to coach and mentor runners of various skill levels, and I think he will fit perfectly into the position here at YU”, said Assistant Athletic Director John Czarnecki. “Brendan will be able to continue along the lines that the previous coaching staff has put in place and I think the student-athletes will react positively to his plans for a program that has the potential to do great things.”
