Michal Alge of the women's basketball team, and sophomore forward
Gabriel Leifer of the men's basketball team, have been named the Yeshiva University Student-Athletes of the Week.
Alge was inducted into the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the sixth time this season, on Monday. The Boston resident also earned Honorable Mention accolades by the Metropolitan Sports Writers Association for the second time this year. Alge averaged a double-double (11 points and 18 rebounds per contest) over the course of two games this past week. She led all players in rebounding with 20 caroms in Yeshiva's Skyline win over Sarah Lawrence College, on Thursday. The Boston resident scored 11 points with 16 rebounds at Farmingdale State, on Sunday. In that same game, she blocked four shots and forced three steals.
Leifer has made an impact since joining the men's team at the start of the second half of the season. He was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, on Monday. The Lawrence resident averaged a double-double per game with 17.3 points and 11 rebounds in the first three games of his collegiate career. He scored 10 points with eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals against Old Westbury, last Tuesday. He added 17 points with 14 rebounds in a Skyline win at Maritime, on Thursday, and produced another double-double with a career-high 25 points and 11 boards in a conference win at St. Joseph's Long Island, on Sunday.
