Michal Alge, of the women's basketball team, and sophomore forward
Gabriel Leifer of the men's basketball team, have been named the Yeshiva University Student-Athletes of the Week.
Alge averaged a double-double (10.7 points and 14.3 rebounds per contest) over the course of three Skyline games this past week. On Sunday against Mount Saint Vincent, she set a program record for most career rebounds with 849. The Boston resident had 12 points with 19 rebounds that day. She produced double-figures in boards in all three games this week. Alge registered a double-double (12 points and 13 caroms) at St. Joseph's Long Island, on Thursday, while dishing out five assists and forcing four steals at Old Westbury, last Tuesday. Thanks to her strong effort, Alge was inducted into the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday and earned honorable mention accolades by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association for the third time this season, on Tuesday.
Leifer, The reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, averaged a double-double over the course of three Yeshiva conference wins this week. The Lawrence resident produced double-doubles in two of those games, including 21 points and 14 rebounds in a Skyline win at Merchant Marine on Sunday, which helped Yeshiva clinch a spot in the upcoming Skyline Conference Championships for the fourth straight season. Leifer scored a career-high 32 points (shooting 12-for-16 from the field and 3-for-5 from 3-point range) and grabbed 11 rebounds at Old Westbury, last Tuesday. He dished out five assists in each game against Old Westbury and at USMMA. Leifer's strong week earned him a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week and honorable mention accolades from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
