NEW YORK, N.Y. – This week's Yeshiva University Student-Athletes of the Week are freshman shortstop
Basya Goldstein, of the softball team, and sophomore outside hitter
Derek Orenshein of the men's volleyball team.
Goldstein was inducted into the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. In Yeshiva's victory over York N.Y. on Sunday, Goldstein went 2-for-2 with four runs scored and just as many runs batted in. She drew three walks and stole two bases. That led to Yeshiva setting a program single-game record with 26 runs scored as a team. Goldstein is off to a great start in her collegiate career, as the Teaneck resident has a .500 batting average through the first three games. She scored five runs and driven in four, while having an on-base percentage of .700.
Orenshein was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, on Monday. In Yeshiva's key conference win over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, on Wednesday, Orenshein slammed home 14 kills and added seven digs. He added eight kills and seven digs against Purchase College on Sunday. The Maccabees currently sit in the fourth and final playoff spot in the Skyline Conference standings.
