Nesta Felix is in her third season as head coach of the women’s basketball team at Yeshiva University.
During the 2013-14 season, Felix led the Maccabees to a seven win season and earned the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Coach of the Year. She also coached two student-athletes to NCAA national statistical leaders as one women’s basketball team member, Rebecca Yoshor, led the NCAA Division III in rebounds per game, and the other, Stephanie Greenberg, led the country in steals per game.
Prior to Yesiva, Felix served as Woodlands High School in Hartsdale, N.Y. from 2010-12 where she led the Highlanders to a 25-12 overall record and led brought the team to its first playoff appearance during the 2010-11 season.
Before that, Felix served a assistant women’s basketball coach, from 2002 through 2009 with Monroe College, an NJCAA Division I institution in New Rochelle, N.Y. While there, Felix helped the team to four regional championships and three national championship appearances. Overall, the Mustangs went a combined 194-40 during that time.
Felix is a 2001 graduate of Iona College where she was a two year letter winner on the women’s basketball team and a three year member of the volleyball team, which included the 1999 team which won the MAAC Championship.
Felix is still an active athlete today. She competes regularly in the West Fourth New York City urban basketball leagues and other year round tournaments. She is also a certified basketball official.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Felix resides in Mount Vernon, N.Y. where she is the executive director of NewFlex Hoops, an after school program that fosters positive development of youth, through mentoring, sports, and regular programming.
