Daniel "Dani" Katz began his tenure as an assistant coach of the Yeshiva University men's basketball team in October of 2021.
Katz played all four years for the Maccabees, from 2016 until 2020, and was a key player in taking the Yeshiva men's basketball program to the next level. He led YU to two Skyline Conference Championships, three straight appearances in the league's title game, two automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament, and a pair of victories in the 2019-20 NCAA Postseason.
Katz was a team captain during his senior year (2019-20) during which he propelled Yeshiva to a 29-1 record, Yeshiva's second Skyline Championship, and a berth in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament before the rest of the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. That year, Yeshiva was ranked as a high as No. 8 in the D3hoops.com Men's Top 25 National Poll.
The Baltimore native finished his collegiate career No. 10 on YU's All-Time Career Assists List with 252.
Yeshiva won 50 consecutive games from November 10, 2019 until December 30, 2021. The streak began during his senior year as a player on the team and continued during his first year as the team's assistant coach. It was the second longest unbeaten stretch in Division III men's basketball history, just 10 wins shy of SUNY Potsdam's streak from 1985 until 1987. The Maccabees were ranked No. 1 in all of Division III men's basketball (D3hoops.com Poll) for five weeks during their long undefeated stretch.
Katz helped coach the Maccabees to their third Skyline Conference Championship in program history during the 2021-22 season.
As a student-athlete, Katz earned a spot on the Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll twice and was named to the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Team just as many times. He was inducted into the NABC Honors Court in 2019-20. Katz earned the Coach's Award at the Athletic Department's Annual Awards Ceremony in May of 2020.
In addition to his coaching role with the men's basketball team, Katz also works as an admissions counselor at YU. He received his bachelor's degree in strategy & entrepreneurship from his alma mater in May of 2020.
