NEW YORK, NY – The women's volleyball team captured their first victory of the season with a 3-1 defeat of Maritime College. The two teams met in the opener of a tri-match including Pratt, which was hosted by the Maccabees at Hunter College on Sunday. Individual game scores were 25-22 15-25, 25-20, 25-13. At the end of the day, Yeshiva stood at 1-10 overall.
Dena Shayne played a big part in the win, recording 5 kills, one ace, and 9 digs. Following that with a strong performance of her own was Abigail Smolensky, who recorded 5 kills, 2 aces, and 2 digs. Senior Jenny Deluty made a team high 6 service aces for the Maccabees.
In the second game against Pratt, the Maccabees played tough and nearly pulled it out, losing by no more than 6 points in each game (23-25, 19-25, 20-25). Ariella Gindi had an amazing performance playing the back row, recording 25 digs in the three games. Tzivya Block had a team high 4 service aces and recorded 5 digs of her own.
Four seniors were honored before the start of the final game; Tzivya Block, Abigail Smolensky, Jenny Deluty, and Nili Block. Their hard work and dedication to the team has been seen in their years on the team. Their team, the coaching staff, and the athletics department wishes them the best with their future endeavors.
The volleyball team will travel to play NY City Tech on Thursday the 22nd, with a start time of 6PM.
