NEW YORK, NY – The women's volleyball team earned their 3rd win in 6 games by defeating York College 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) Monday evening in Jamaica, NY. It is the second road win for the Maccabees, who stand at 3-12 on the season.
Nili Block and Dena Shayne led the Maccabees attack with 6 kills each, getting help from Tzivya Block who recorded 15 assists. On the defensive side, 4 Maccabees recorded double digit digs, led by Abigail Smolensky with 17, Dena Shayne with 15, Nili Block with 13, and Ariella Gindi with 11. Rena Rotter had 5 of the team's 11 aces in the game.
The straight set win for Yeshiva was the first of the season, as the first two wins came in 4 sets. The girls have momentum on their side as they head into the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Quarterfinals on Thursday. The first round game against Pratt Institute will be played in Brooklyn, NY at 8:00 p.m.
The two teams met on October 18th in a tri-match hosted by Yeshiva at Hunter College. Pratt came out on top, 3-0, although the teams played very equally. Individual set scores were 23-25, 19-25, 20-25.
