YU places sixth at St. Joseph's Invitational behind Gornish's 84

(Coram, NY) - Junior Max Gornish (St. Louis, MO/Block Yeshiva) scored an 84 to place in the top-10 finishers overall as the Yeshiva University Golf team opened the 2008 season with a sixth place finish at the St. Joseph's College Invitational, held at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Coram, New York on Friday, Sept. 12.

Yeshiva finished with a team score of 395 to finish behind Manhattan College (305), Farmingdale State (329), St. Joseph's (335), Stevens (338) and USMMA-Kings Point (354). The Maccabees placed ahead of Centenary, SUNY Purchase, Old Westbury, and Sage College.

Also scoring well for the Maccabees were senior Daniel Lieberman (Montreal, Canada/Hebrew Academy), who finished with a 101, sophomore Joseph Sherman (Brookline, MA/Maimonides) who scored a 112, and sophomore Jason Kirschner (Chicago, IL/Ida Crown Jewish Academy) finished with a 123.

Yeshiva returns to action on Monday, Sept. 15 when the Maccabees host the Yeshiva University Golf Invitational. The eight-team event will be played at the Hudson Hills Golf Course in Ossining, New York.
