New York, NY – Odelia Rosenberg (Paramus, NJ/Ma'ayanot Yeshiva) stopped 12 shots in the season opener against Medgar Evers, but the Maccabees fell by a final of 3-1. Maayan Elyashiv (Brooklyn, NY/YUHS) notched Yeshiva's goal in the 78th minute, the first goal of her Yeshiva career. Shakera Ho-Sang cored twice for the Cougars (1-0).
Medgar Evers took control early, scoring twice in the first 25 minutes of the game. Wendy Gallegos scored the first goal on a ball that skipped off Rosenberg's hands and into the back of the net. Ho-Sang's first goal came at 24:35, a breakaway that was assisted by a pass from Latima Malachi.
Yeshiva's defense played strong, forcing poor passes and wide shots all game. Less than half the shots taken by the Cougars were on goal, and the defense forced Medgar Evers to be whistled offside 6 times in the contest.
Rochelle Friedman (Overland Park, KS/Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy) took 3 shots (2 on goal) and assisted on the Elyashiv goal. The Maccabees were limited to 6 shots and 2 corner kicks, while committing 8 fouls. Up next for Yeshiva will be the season's first conference game against Bard College on Sunday, September 8th. The game is slated for a 4PM start at Tibbetts Brook Park.
