NEW YORK, NY - The #5 Yeshiva Maccabees and #4 St. Joseph's Brooklyn Bears met in the HVWAC play-in game to determine who advances to the conference semifinals over the weekend. The game began at 8PM at Hunter College, and ended 3-0 in favor of the Bears. Individual game scores were 25-21, 25-18, 25-17.
Six Maccabees recorded at least 2 kills, with
Sarit Zukowsky leading the way with 6.
Rena Rotter followed with 5.
Dena Shayne led the team with 16 digs, while
Ashley Ansel was close behind with 14.
Moriah Green recorded 18 assists to lead the Macs.
The first game was tied 13 times, and featured 7 lead changes. At 20-20, the Bears went on a 5-1 run to close out the first game. The second and third games were controlled by the Bears most of the way, as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second, and would pull away from the Macs midway through the third to get the 3-0 win.
The Bears will advance into the semifinal round and play top seeded Sarah Lawrence. The Maccabees have one more match remaining this season; Senior Night against St. Joseph's LI on Monday at 8PM. The game will be held at Baruch College.
