NEW YORK, NY – The women's soccer team struggled in their season opener, falling to Maritime College 10-0. Although Yeshiva was the home team for this game, the event was played at Maritime College under the lights at 8PM. This was also the season opener for Maritime.
Yeshiva played hard on defense to start the game, allowing only a single goal in the opening 20 minutes. However, Maritime's constant pressure on the Maccabee defense paid off, as the Privateers scored 3 goals in 7 minutes to open the game up 4-0. Maritime scored once more in the opening half, and equaled that total in the second for the 10-0 win.
In her first game as a goalkeeper,
Erica Hasten made 9 saves, often diving either right or left to stop a shot. Although it doesn't show in the stat column, she made countless plays outside of the goalie box to clear the ball and stop the Maritime attack. As a team, Yeshiva managed just 2 shots on goal, both coming in the first half of play.
Yeshiva will be back in action on the 6th when they take on Mount Saint Vincent at 8PM. The game will be played at Tibbetts Brook Park, in Yonkers.
