Men's Basketball Remains Undefeated with 82-73 Win over Hunter College

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's basketball team connected on 62.3 percent shooting from the field (33-for-53), including 67.9 percent in the first half (19-for-28) and 56 percent in the second half (14-for-25) en route to picking up its second win of the season with an 82-73 win at Hunter College on Tuesday evening.
 
With the exception of a 1-0 Hunter lead in the opening minute, the Maccabees led the entire game to stay undefeated. Yeshiva scampered off a 7-0 run to take a 7-1 lead, and the Maccabees were up the rest of the way.
 
Yeshiva led by as much as 14 in the first half, and had that cushion on three occasions in the first stanza before going into halftime with a 13 point lead at 43-30.
 
In the second half Yeshiva led by as much as 18 and the Maccabees kept the host Hawks at an arm's length distance the rest of the way. Hunter got to within as few as eight points of the lead in the final moment of the game, but the game was well in hand.
 
Yeshiva was led by Shelby Rosenberg and Benjy Ritholtz with a team co-high 18 points. Rosenberg shot 7-for-9 from the field and had seven rebounds, while Ritholtz added three rebounds and four assists. He now has 809 career points, leaving him 191 away from 1,000. Michael Berg also reached double figures, scoring 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting with six rebounds and two assists. Joseph Ammar had another strong game off the bench with 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting. Jordan Hod and Shaje Weiss chipped in with nine points each in the win.
 
Hunter, now 2-1 overall this season, was led by Brian Kruger with 23 points, while Tulant Ibraj had 18 for the Hawks.
 
Yeshiva held a 36-20 advantage on points in the paint and held an 8-2 edge on fast break points.
 
Yeshiva returns to action on Thursday for its 2014-15 home opener against Connecticut College at 8 p.m.
