NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's basketball team suffered an 82-66 loss on the road at the City College of New York (CCNY) Sunday afternoon.

The Maccabees are now 2-2 overall this season, while CCNY is now 3-1.

CCNY went to the free throw line almost twice as many times as the Maccabees, playing a big factor in the Beavers' win. CCNY capitalized on its abundance of free throw attempts by shooting 87.9 (29-for-33) from the line, while Yeshiva went to the line 17 times and made 12 for a 70.6 percent showing.

Yeshiva connected on 25 of 56 from the floor for a 44.6 percent clip. Michael Berg, Shelby Rosenberg, Benjy Ritholtz and Joseph Ammar took 11 shots each for Yeshiva. CCNY shot 24-for-54 from the field for a 44.4 percent clip.

Yeshiva was led by Rosenberg with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Berg had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Ritholtz scored 14 points for the Maccabees. CCNY was led by Khalil Hamer, Anthony Lewis and Darius Rhodes with 18 points each for a game and team tri-high.

The host Beavers started the game with a 5-2 lead, before Yeshiva countered with a 9-0 run to take an 11-5 advantage. Then down 13-7, CCNY countered with an 11-2 run to take a 16-15 lead and the Beavers never trailed again.

CCNY extended its lead to eight by the end of the first half as the Beavers went into halftime with a 44-36 lead. CCNY then maintained a comfortable lead through the final twenty minutes en route to winning the game. Yeshiva had gotten the lead down to as few as seven points early in the second half as the Maccabees trailed 51-44 with 16:36 to go. But the Beavers countered by outscoring Yeshiva 11-3 over the next five plus minutes to take a 62-47 lead with 11:28 to go. CCNY led by as much as twenty in the latter moments of the game before the final buzzer sounded.

Yeshiva is back in action on Wednesday for its 2014-15 Skyline Conference opener at St. Joseph's-Long Island at 5 p.m.
