YONKERS, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's soccer team closed out its most successful season in program history with a solid 3-0 win over the City College of New York (CCNY) in a non conference game at Tibbets Brook Park on Friday.
With the win, Yeshiva officially finishes the year at 10-7-1. Its 10 wins is the most in program history in one season and the Maccabees .583 win percentage this season is the highest in their history.
Yeshiva played a solid game, while the visiting Beavers played well too. While neither team scored through the first twenty plus minutes of the contest, CCNY had arguably the better scoring chances early. But Yeshiva goalkeeper
Maor Feinstein made several spectacular saves in the opening moments to keep the Beavers from striking.
The lone goal of the first half came off the foot of
Itamar Ben David who, after being fouled inside the penalty box, connected on his sixth penalty kick of the season to finish 6-for-6 on them in 2014. Ben David ended the season with 18 goals to give him 34 during his first two seasons with the team.
After halftime, which saw Yeshiva honor its six seniors (
Gilad Bengio,
Joshua Cohen,
Joey Krombach,
Naftali Simon,
Ronan Weinberg-Waks, and
Jonathan Zycer), the Maccabees scored quickly in the second half to go up a pair as
Adir Alon took a perfect pass from
Aaron Braun and blasted a point blank shot home to make the score 2-0 with just 3:53 gone by.
Later in the second half, Alon scored again after collecting a ball that deflected off the CCNY goalkeeper and put it in from close to make the score 3-0 with just over fifteen minutes to play.
Yeshiva held a 19-13 advantage on shots. Ben David had a game-high six shots, while Alon had five. CCNY's Matthew Mbamelu led the Beavers with three shots, while Edward Ames had two shots, both of which were on goal.
Feinstein earned his fourth shutout of the season after stopping seven shots in the win.
