NEWBURGH, N.Y.— Five players scored in doubles figures as in a well played game by Yeshiva University who exploded for 89 points en route to its fourth straight conference win in an 89-79 victory over Mt. St. Mary's College on Wednesday.
The win moves the Maccabees to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in Skyline Conference play, while MSMC is now 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the Skyline.
Shelby Rosenberg led the way for Yeshiva with a game-high 27 points, while
Shaje Weiss added 19.
Michael Berg had 13 points,
Benjy Ritholtz had 12 and
Jordan Hod had 11.
The Maccabees continued their hot shooting as Yeshiva connected on 62.5 percent (35-for-56) from the field. After making 51.2 percent of its shots in the first half (17-for-33), Yeshiva connected on 78.3 percent (18-for-23) in the second half.
The Maccabees also shot a respectable 76.2 percent from the free throw line (16-for-21) in the contest.
MSMC was led by Gerard Nocera with 21 points.
Yeshiva held a 58-40 advantage on points in the paint.
The host Blue Knights scored the first six points of the game and led 6-0 in the opening minute. After a couple of lead changes early in the game, Yeshiva took the lead for good with 4:15 to go in the first half on a lay-up by Berg. The field goal came in the midst of a 13-2 Yeshiva run that turned a 28-21 MSMC lead into a 34-30 Yeshiva advantage.
The Maccabees continued to increase their lead at the end of the first half and went into halftime with a 41-34 lead. A buzzer beating three point field goal by Ritholtz ended the first half.
Yeshiva kept the Blue Knights at arm's length distance in the second half. MSMC got to within as little as three points of the lead, but the Maccabees connected on clutch shots all throughout the second half to preserve the lead.
Yeshiva returns to action on Sunday afternoon for a home game against Purchase College at 1 p.m.
