Men's Soccer Loses on the Road to Tough Opponent in Western Connecticut State

Game Description Courtesy of Western Connecticut State

DANBURY, Conn. —The Yeshiva University men's soccer team was defeated on the road at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) 6-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

WCSU took an early 1-0 lead in the game's sixth minute when freshman Eammon D'Arcy delivered a pass to sophomore Aislan Sartori. Sartori drilled a shot into the back, left corner of the goal, just past the reach of the Yeshiva goalkeeper Maor Feinstein, giving the Colonials the early advantage.

Ten minutes later, Pugliese raced around the right side of the Yeshiva defense with the ball and took a shot that traveled across the face of the goal, before ricocheting off the inside of the left post and into the goal for a 2-0 Western lead.

At the half, Western held a 12-1 advantage in shots over Yeshiva, and a 2-0 edge on the scoreboard.

The Maccabees wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the second half.  Freshman Aaron Braun raced between two WCSU defenders in the center of the field, and received a pass from sophomore Itamar Ben David. Both WCSU defenders mistakenly believed the play to be off-sides, and Braun continued unmarked toward the goal.  Western's keeper, Austin Tierney, got a late break coming out of the cage, and Braun found the back of the net to cut the deficit in half.

At the 74:40 mark, WCSU junior Phil Dagostino collected the ball near midfield and raced into the right side of the box.  His shot found the net and gave WCSU a 3-1 lead.
With seven minutes remaining, Pugliese scored his second goal of the game to give WCSU more breathing room with a 4-1 lead, and D'Arcy's goal with less than two minutes remaining made the score 5-1.

Both teams managed to score in the game's final minute as junior Daniel Amar for Yeshiva and Pugliese for WCSU scored before the game's end to make the score 6-2.
For the game, WCSU held a 25-12 advantage in shots, and also had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.  Tierney finished with five saves in goal for the Colonials to pick up the win, while Feinstein recorded six saves for Yeshiva.

WCSU moves to 3-4-1 on the season, while the Maccabees are now 5-4-1.
