NEW YORK, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's basketball team lost a close one on Saturday evening at the Max Stern Athletic Center as the Maccabees lost to Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) 69-67.
The loss leaves Yeshiva at 11-5 overall and 8-3 in Skyline Conference play, while MSMC is now 5-13 overall and 4-7 in the Skyline this season.
Yeshiva had a chance to win the game at the buzzer, but a final try was well defended by MSMC. The play developed after the Maccabees got a team rebound following a miss on the back end of a one-and-one free throw attempt with less than three seconds remaining.
Prior to that the game saw fifteen lead changes and seven ties and neither team led by more than 10 the entire game.
Yeshiva led by double-digits twice in the second half. The first 10-point lead came to start the final stanza. After a 27-27 score at halftime, Yeshiva opened the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 39-29 lead with less than three minutes gone by. Then the Maccabees led by 10 with sixteen minutes remaining and the score 42-32
The visiting Blue Knights came right back with a 14-0 run that gave them their first lead of the half, and MSMC was up 46-42 with 10:18 to go.
The final ten minutes of the game saw the lead change ten times. MSMC took the lead for good with just under two minutes to go on a lay-up by Jason Oder. The Blue Knights led by as much as three over the final two minutes before coming away with the two point win.
Yeshiva was led by
Shelby Rosenberg with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go along with nine rebounds.
Benjy Ritholtz added 11 second half points, while
Jordan Hod had seven assists and seven points.
MSMC was led by Conner Nicholson with 16 points, while Tyler McDine had 11 points and nine assists.
Both teams scored 30 points in the paint, while MSMC held a 24-18 advantage on points off turnovers.
Yeshiva is back in action on Monday for a game at Farmingdale State at 8 p.m.
