Box Score JAMAICA, N.Y. --- The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team took a tough five-set loss at York College on Thursday night at the P.E.& Health Building in Jamaica, New York. The Cardinals (5-19) prevailed over the Maccabees (2-14), 22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-14 and 15-7.
Junior middle blocker
Gavriela Colton (Teaneck N.J. / Ma'ayanot) led Yeshiva with six kills and three total blocks. Senior setter
Emily Rohan (Dallas, Texas / Yavneh Academy of Dallas) posted three kills, two service aces and ten digs. Junior libero
Shaina Hourizadeh (Englewood, N.J. / Frisch) led the defense with 17 digs and two service aces.
Yeshiva jumped out to an 6-0 lead in the opening set, with the host York rallying to tie it late. After the Cardinals pulled to within one at 23-22, Colton came up with a huge kill and sophomore defensive specialist
Yael Ghelman (Houston, Tex. / Robert M Beren Academy) finished off York with an ace.
After falling short in the second set, the Maccabees reeled off an early 9-1 run to take control. Once again the hosts rallied, going up 22-20 late in the bout. But Yeshiva finished on a 5-1 run, going up two sets to one.
That was as close as the Maccabees could come, however, as the Cardinals came back to win the last two sets on their Senior Night.
Yeshiva will wrap up their season on Sunday at a Skyline Multimatch at the College of Old Westbury.
