OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University men's basketball team's season came to an end on Tuesday after falling in the first round of the 2015 Skyline Conference championship 82-70 at the College at Old Westbury .
The Maccabees' season ends with an overall record of 14-11 and 11-7 fifth place finish in the Skyline Conference regular season. The College at Old Westbury now advances into the semifinals of the tournament and will face Sage College on Thursday.
In Tuesday's defeat the host No. 4 seed Panthers led from start to finish. Old Westbury scored the first five points of the game. Yeshiva got its early deficit down to one point on two occasions. With the Maccabees trailing 7-6, the College at Old Westbury went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-6 lead with 16:24 to go.
Moments later, the Panthers led 17-8 before the Maccabees went on an 8-2 run to pull to within three, and the score was 19-16 with 11:20 to go.
The Maccabees were still down by three at 21-18 before the College at Old Westbury used a 12-2 run to pull ahead and lead 33-20 with 7:29 to go.
The Panthers maintained a large lead through the rest of the first half and led by more than twenty points over the final two and a half minutes and went into halftime up 52-32.
Yeshiva opened the second half outscoring the Panthers 16-5 to get the deficit back to within single digits and the Maccabees were down 57-48 with 11:51 to play.
College at Old Westbury managed to keep Yeshiva at arm's-length distance the rest of the way. After falling back behind by double-digits later in the second half, the Maccabees got the deficit back to nine points once more with the score 73-64 with 1:27 left.
Yeshiva was led by
Shelby Rosenberg with 29 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Benjy Ritholtz scored 14 points and had six rebounds, while
Shaje Weiss had 10 points and six rebounds.
College at Old Westbury was led by Reynaldo Walters and Floyd Leroy with 19 points each.
Both teams scored 14 points on second chance points and 32 points on points in the paint. College at Old Westbury outscored Yeshiva 17-2 on fastbreak points and 18-6 on points off turnovers.
