Baseball Sweeps Vaughn College

RIVERDALE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva baseball team won a pair of games on Sunday afternoon beating Vaughn College in a doubleheader, 9-6 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game.
 
With the wins the Maccabees are 2-17 overall. Vaughn College falls to 0-7 this year.
 
In game one, Elan Paul and Shmuli Goldis both led the way by going 2-for-3. Paul had a double, four runs and a run batted in, while Goldis scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Zachary Perl, Josh Gurin, Joseph Bankier, Samuel Rhodes and Benjamin Barman added one hit each in the opener.
 
Benjy Blumenthal picked up the game one win after going 6.0 innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits, while striking out four. Rephael Rosenberg earned the save after pitching the final inning, allowing no runs, on no hits, while walking one and striking out one.
 
In the second game, Jonathan Gardner tossed five innings of shutout ball, scattering two hits and striking out five.
 
Gurin went 1-for-2 with a homerun and three runs batted in to lead the Maccabees offensively. Paul, Goldis, Bankier and Chaim Rosenberg had one hit each. Paul, Goldis and Jakob Finkel had one run batted in each in the nightcap.
 
Yeshiva is back in action on Monday for a game at Lehman College at 7 p.m.
