Softball Beats College of New Rochelle, Falls to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at HVIAC Invitational

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.— The Yeshiva University softball team defeated the College of New Rochelle 11-6 to advance to the championship game and lost 7-3 to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in the 2015 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Invitational at Flowers City Park on Sunday.
 
With the pair of games, the first season as an NCAA Division III program for the Maccabees ends with Yeshiva finishing 6-18 on the year.
 
In the win over the College of New Rochelle, the Maccabees were led by Rachel Mirsky and Leah Ben-Zvi who had two hits each. Mirsky went 2-for-4 with two runs and a run batted in, while Ben-Zvi went 2-for-4 with a homerun, a run and two runs batted in. Yeshiva also had one hit each off the bats of Merav Saden Barach, Kayla Applebaum and Lieba Swartz-Brownstein.
 
Erin Potasnick pitched the first game and allowed six runs (four earned) on two hits, while striking out seven batters.
 
In the championship game, the Bears took a 7-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning when the Maccabees edged closer with three runs. Rena Genauer ripped a bases clearing double to drive in all three Yeshiva runs. She finished the day 1-for-3 with three runs batted in. Meanwhile Mirsky, Swartz-Brownstein, Eliana Levy and Hannah Dubin all had one hit each.
 
Mirsky suffered the loss in the championship game after going 6.0 innings and allowing seven runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.
