NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team suffered a non-conference loss to the City College of New York, 79-47, at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. Yeshiva was the official home team for the contest.
The Beavers (5-4) jumped out to an early 11-0 lead and never looked back. Yeshiva (3-11) did outscore CCNY, 16-12, in the fourth quarter but it was not enough.
CCNY successfully converted eight 3-point field goals, while out-rebounding the opposition, 53-35. Ashley Brooks (11 points and 10 rebounds) and Crystal Blair (10 points and 12 rebounds) both produced double-doubles to help propel the Beavers to victory. Madison LaSalle scored a game-high 15 points, while Emily Arias added 14 points with three steals. Debra Chan dished out a game-high five assists.
Yeshiva was efficient in the final period, as the home team generated a 9-1 run to keep CCNY honest. Junior guard
Nicole Bick successfully executed back-to-back layups, while freshman guard
Chana Boltax drained a 3-point field goal, to highlight the run. It was not enough as CCNY went on to earn the non-conference victory.
For the Maccabees, Bick led the team in scoring with 11 points and brought down six rebounds. Boltax and freshman guard
Leah Shulman each scored seven points, with the latter bringing down two caroms and forcing just as many steals. Senior forward
Michal Alge added five points with seven rebounds, while freshman forward
Lindsay Brandwein scored five points with just as many boards.
Sophomore guard
