NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team earned a convincing Skyline victory over Mount Saint Vincent, 99-56, at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Saturday evening. The Maccabees advance to 2-2 in the conference (2-5 overall), while the Dolphins drop to 1-1 in Skyline play (2-4 overall).

Yeshiva shot 60.7 percent from the field, including 46.4 percent from 3-point range.

Junior forward Daniel Katz led all players with 19 points, on 9-10 shooting, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. Freshman guard Ryan Turell had 18 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Gabriel Leifer produced a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards, while distributing six assists and blocking five shots.

Junior guard Simcha Halpert scored 15 points, courtesy of five 3-point shots, all in the second half. The Los Angeles native is just 36 points away from the 1,000-point milestone for his career.

YU never trailed during the contest. The game was close until the late stages of the first half, but the Maccabees dominated the final 6:03 of the period by outscoring the Dolphins, 16-4, to take a commanding 42-26 advantage at the break. Highlighted in that run was Katz grabbing a defensive rebound and throwing an outlet pass to Turell, who dunked the ball into the basket on a fast break to give the Macs a nine-point lead.

After Katz scored back-to-back baskets to open the second half, Turell launched a 3-point field goal to give Yeshiva a commanding 49-27 advantage. The home team steadily increased its lead for most of the stanza, as a successful jump shot by freshman guard Jeffrey Owen gave YU its largest lead of the game, at 88-42, with 4:13 left to play.  

The Maccabees went on to earn the one-sided victory, 99-56.

For the evening, sophomore guard Eitan Halpert registered nine points with five assists, while freshman guard Daniel Tzion had a solid game with eight points and just as many rebounds. Owen and sophomore guard Sammy Mandel each scored six points, with the former clutching five caroms. Senior guard Justin Hod added three points, while junior forward Kevin Bokor scored two points to go along with a rebound. Senior forward Michael Hayon successfully converted a shot from the charity stripe and brought down four boards, while sophomore guard Albert Waxman had a rebound and a dime.

Yeshiva will return to the Max Stern Athletic Center for another Skyline game on Tuesday, this time against St. Joseph's College Long Island, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
