RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's volleyball team suffered a Skyline Conference loss to Mount Saint Vincent, in straight sets, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Thursday evening. Set scores were 25-10, 25-16, and 25-17.
After the Dolphins (5-10, 1-0 Skyline) led from wire-to-wire to win the first game, the Maccabees (1-9, 0-3 Skyline) jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second stanza. However, CMSV countered with a 17-4 run to take a commanding lead. Yeshiva could not sustain a consistent run for the remainder of the second set, as Mount Saint Vincent took a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, sophomore opposite hitter
Derek Orenshein slammed home a kill to narrow the Dolphins' lead to 10-8. Mount Saint Vincent would answer with an 11-6 run to go up, 19-12. CMSV earned a set-point opportunity, as Yeshiva trailed 24-15. However, junior outside hitter
Chaim Aryeh Rubin produced a kill to keep the Macs alive. After Yeshiva scored on the next sequence, CMSV produced the 25
th point to clinch the set and the Skyline victory.
For the evening, Rubin had a team-high five kills to go along with seven digs. Orenshein tied a match-high with eight digs, while slamming home three kills. Freshman outside hitter
Jonathan Apsan led Yeshiva's strong defense with four blocks, while sophomore middle blocker
Yosef Ajami produced three blocks of his own. Junior outside hitter
Amitai Miller contributed on defense with three digs and scored an ace, while freshman setter
Isaac Pomerance led the team with nine assists.

Gavriel Hizami anchored the defense with six digs. Freshman outside hitter
Joseph Sulaymanov contributed to the Maccabees' attack with two kills.
Yeshiva will host a Skyline Conference Tri-Match on Sunday. The Maccabees will take on the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's Long Island at 12:00 p.m., and then take on Sarah Lawrence College at 4:00 p.m. All matches will take place at the Campbell Sports Center, on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College.
