Farmingdale Snaps Baseball Team's Three-Game Win Streak With Pair of Skyline Wins

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University baseball team dropped both games to Farmingdale State (17-3, 10-3) at the Farmingdale Baseball Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Rams advance to 7-3 in Skyline play (15-9 overall), while the Maccabees drop to 3-12 overall (0-10 Skyline). The loss snaps Yeshiva's three-game winning streak.

In the opening game, the Rams scored a run in each of the first two innings to take the lead. The Maccabees responded with three runs in the top of the fourth, all with two outs, to jump out on top. In that frame, Yeshiva had runners on first and second. Freshman second baseman Shmuel Silverstein drilled a single down the right field line to score sophomore center fielder David Hanelin to put the Macs on the board. Junior left fielder Aryeh Salovey was the next man up, and launched a triple to right, scoring both sophomore third baseman Alex Malech and Silverstein to give Yeshiva a 3-2 advantage.

The Rams would respond by scoring 10 runs in the home half of the fourth to take a commanding 12-3 lead. Farmingdale would not look back, going on to win the first end of the double-header by a score of 17-3.

For the game, Hanelin, Malech, and sophomore right fielder Josh Fogel each reached base with a single. Senior first baseman Chaim Nosson Rosenberg drew a walk. On the mound, Lou Puccio earned the win in relief for the Rams, pitching a shutout inning. Freshman pitcher Yosef Rosenfield started the contest and picked up the loss, going three-plus innings. Fogel struck out a batter, while pitching three innings in relief.

In the second game, the Rams scored a pair of runs in the first to take the lead.

Farmingdale scored again in the bottom of the third to go up 3-0, and had the bases loaded with one out. Domenic Palumbo ripped the ball for a line drive that was caught by sophomore third baseman Mordy Kirsch, as he laid out to snag the ball, preventing the Rams from scoring more runs. The Maccabees were able to escape the inning without more damage.

Down by three runs in the top of the fourth, Yeshiva scored twice off of three triples to pull to within one. Rosenberg led the inning off with a triple to right field. Two batters later, he scored thanks to a triple to right by Hanelin. With two outs, sophomore second baseman Zachary Baly produced Yeshiva's third triple of the inning to score Hanelin and narrow Farmingdale's lead to 3-2.

With Yeshiva trailing 4-2 in the top of the fifth, Salovey produced YU's fourth triple of the game, launching the ball to right-center field. He would eventually score on an RBI groundout by senior shortstop Shmuli Goldis, cutting the Rams' lead to 4-3.

Farmingdale would eventually pull away by scoring three runs in the fifth, and just as many in the sixth. FSC went on to win, 10-3, to earn the sweep.

For the game, Salovey and Goldis each went 2-for-3. Hanelin and freshman catcher Simon Schoen each drew a walk. On the mound, Silverstein pitched a complete game, but took the loss. Brandon Ernest earned the win for Farmingdale, pitching a shutout inning in relief.

Yeshiva will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy in a Skyline Conference double-header, on Sunday at Ridgefield Park, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
