No. 1 Men's Tennis Defeats No. 4 Farmingdale State to Earn Berth in Skyline Championship Match

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The No. 1 Yeshiva University men's tennis team earned a victory over No. 4 Farmingdale State College, in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference championships, at the USTA National Tennis Center on Thursday evening. Yeshiva advances to the championship match with a chance to earn its fifth consecutive Skyline championship and automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Yeshiva (12-5) will host No. 2 United States Merchant Marine Academy for the Skyline title, on Sunday at the USTA National Tennis Center, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Mariners defeated No. 3 Mount Saint Mary College in the other conference semifinal match, on Thursday evening.

"Great all-around team match," Yeshiva University head coach Jon Rubinstein said. "Everyone played really well today. I was proud of how they came out firing in singles in spite of just dropping a doubles match. They just regrouped and refused to let Farmingdale State into the match."

The Maccabees won two out of three doubles flights, and were victorious in all three completed singles contests.

Junior Mikey Ozery and freshman Dor Gutterman kicked off the doubles portion of the match, with a convincing victory in the second position by a score of 8-1. Junior Adam Rosemblaum and sophomore Lior Brik continued YU's momentum with a dominating win at #1 doubles, 8-0. Senior Charlie Friedman and sophomore Avidan Rudansky won a pair of games, but the Rams (4-10) were able to pick up the victory at #3 doubles to narrow the Macs' lead to 2-1.

In singles play, Ozery put Yeshiva back on track with a victory at the second position, 6-1, 6-1. Just like in doubles, Rosemblaum did not lose a single game at #1 singles. Friedman clinched the semifinal win for Yeshiva by winning the fourth singles position, 6-1, 6-1.

In the unfinished singles contests, Gutterman won the first set at #3 singles, while Brik dominated in the first set in the fifth singles position. At #6 singles, Rudansky did not lose a single game in the opening set.

After the match, Rosemblaum and Friedman were honored in a senior day ceremony.
