BRONX, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team concluded the 2018 season with a pair of Skyline Conference losses to Mount Saint Vincent, 22-0 and 15-0, at Fordham University on Monday evening.
In the opening game, the Dolphins (16-16, 11-5 Skyline) scored four runs in the first, and produced 10 runs in the second, to take a commanding lead and never looked back. Hannah Thompson earned the win in the circle for Mount Saint Vincent, striking out four YU batters in five shutout innings pitched.
Junior pitcher
Samantha Cohen pitched a complete game for the Maccabees (2-27, 0-16 Skyline), but took the loss. At the plate, junior shortstop
Basya Goldstein produced a single and stole a base, while junior catcher
Sarah Hiller reached base with a double. Senior left fielder
Batya Schreier lined a single.
In the second game, Taylor Milata drilled a grand slam over the left field wall to give the Dolphins a 4-0 lead. Mount Saint Vincent added a pair of runs in the second, three in the third, and six in the fifth to earn the convincing win. Rachel Heizer picked up the win in the circle, fanning five Yeshiva hitters in three innings pitched. Ashley Faccilonga and Meagan Earley each pitched a shutout inning in relief.
For the Macs, senior pitcher
Elisa Alweis pitched a complete game, but took the loss. Goldstein once again reached base with a single, while freshman first baseman
Yael Itskowitz produced a one-base hit. Hiller was able to reach base for the second time during the evening.
Congratulations to our graduating seniors, Schreier,
Ellie Chase, and Alweis. Yeshiva University wishes them the best of luck in their respective careers.
The Yeshiva University softball team will return to the field in 2019.
