Men's Tennis Eliminated by Nationally-Ranked No. 3 Bowdoin College in Second Round of NCAA Tournament

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Yeshiva University men's tennis team concluded the 2017-18 season with a hard-fought loss in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament to nationally-ranked No. 3 Bowdoin College, 5-0, on the Pickard Tennis Courts on Friday morning. The Polar Bears will now compete in the NCAA Regional final for the fifth straight year, on Saturday, where they will play the winner of the Stevens Institute of Technology versus Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute match. Bowdoin is aiming for its second national championship in the past three years.

It was a very successful season for the Yeshiva University men's tennis program, as the Maccabees captured their fifth consecutive Skyline Conference championship and automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Yeshiva won its first round matchup over Ramapo College, 5-0, on Thursday.

"Unfortunately our season came to an end today, against arguably the best team in the tournament," Yeshiva University head coach Jon Rubinstein said. "We played really well considering how tough our opponents were. The guys all fought hard to keep the match going as long as they could."

The Polar Bears (20-1) won all three doubles flights, and both completed singles contests, to clinch a spot in the NCAA Regional final.

For the Maccabees (14-6), senior Adam Rosemblaum and sophomore Lior Brik had a strong effort in the first doubles position, winning three games. Freshman Dylan Ohayon and sophomore Avidan Rudansky joined forces to win a game at #3 doubles.

In singles play, Brik won a pair of games in the opening set of the fourth position. Senior Charlie Friedman won the first two games of the second set at the third flight. Rosemblaum and sophomore Alexander Kalb each won a game at #1 and #6 singles, respectively. Freshman Dor Gutterman won a game in each set, at #2 singles.

"I am so proud of what these amazing young men have accomplished," Yeshiva University Director of Athletics, Mr. Joe Bednarsh said. "They are setting the standard for excellence both by reaching the NCAA postseason for the fifth year in a row and by excelling in the classroom with one all-conference player keeping up a perfect 4.0 GPA. I am humbled to have been a small part of this incredible run."

Rosemblaum and Friedman each competed in the final match of their collegiate careers. "We are sad to see our senior captains Adam and Charlie go," Rubinstein said. "They will be hard to replace. Both contributed so much on and off the court this season. I'm just so proud of my guys."

The Yeshiva University men's tennis team will begin its quest for a sixth straight Skyline Conference championship, in the fall.
