Late Goal Lifts Delaware Valley Over Men's Soccer

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. – The Yeshiva University men's soccer team suffered a hard-fought loss to Delaware Valley University, 1-0, at Overpeck Park on Friday afternoon. It was the season opener for both teams.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Andre Permyashkin in the 86th minute, as he received the ball from Austin Daniels and shot it into the upper-cage from the right wing, for the game-winner.

The Maccabees' best scoring chance of the match came during the opening minute, as junior midfielder Ilan Slonim tried to tip in a pass from the inside of the box, but Delaware Valley's goalkeeper Josh Jarrett was able to dive to his left and make the save. YU could not connect with a shot on goal for the remainder of the match.

For the afternoon, the Aggies had the advantage in shots, 19-7, and a slight edge in corner kicks, 2-1. Freshman goalkeeper Edgar Schottland had an impressive collegiate debut for the Macs, stopping nine out of 10 shots on goal. Also leading the way for Yeshiva was Slonim, who produced four shots, while sophomore forward Alberto Benhamu added two shots of his own.

Yeshiva will host Green Mountain College, in a non-conference contest at Votee Park, on Sunday. The action begins at 3:00 p.m.
