RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference contest to Mount Saint Vincent, 74-58, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Thursday evening. The Dolphins advance to 5-13 for the season and 4-9 in Skyline play, while the Maccabees fall to 6-12 overall and 3-9 in the conference.
Senior guard
Nicole Bick led the Macs in scoring with 17 points, while grabbing three rebounds and dishing out just as many assists. Junior forward
Tehilla Teigman scored eight points, clutched 15 caroms, and had two dimes. Senior forward
Michal Alge produced nine points, brought down four rebounds, and distributed a pair of assists.
The Maccabees got off to a strong start, as Alge converted a layup while being fouled. She added the free throw to complete the traditional three-point play and put YU up, 3-0, 1:11 into the contest. After a jump shot by sophomore forward
Lindsay Brandwein made it 5-2 YU, CMSV took over the game by outscoring the Macs, 24-11, for the remainder of the quarter to take commanding 26-16 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The Dolphins went up by as many as 17 in the second quarter. The Maccabees fought back with six unanswered points, capped off by a successful jump shot from Bick to narrow the opposition's lead to 37-26, with 1:27 left to play in the half. Mount Saint Vincent added a free throw in the closing minute to take a 12-point lead into the intermission.
The Maccabees could not generate a rally to get within striking distance during the third quarter, but a layup by Bick with 46 ticks on the clock pulled YU to within 10, at 51-41. That was the score after 30 minutes of play.
After CMSV extended its lead to 12 in the early stages of the fourth quarter, sophomore guard
Adina Rosenberg single-handedly pushed YU back into the game by scoring eight unanswered points (two 3-pointers and a jump shot) to pull the Macs to within four, at 55-51, with 7:26 remaining in regulation time. However, the Dolphins shifted momentum back into their favor by going on a 16-2 run to take a commanding 71-53 hold with 1:54 left to play. That put the game out of reach for Yeshiva, and Mount Saint Vincent earned the 74-58 Skyline victory.
For the Maccabees, Brandwein scored five points to go along with four rebounds. Sophomore guard
Chana Boltax produced four points, clutched three boards, and dished out a pair of assists. Senior guard
