BROOKLYN – The Yeshiva University women's soccer team finished the 2019 season on a positive note, tying York College (N.Y.) by a score of 2-2, at Aviator Field on Thursday evening. Each team tallied a goal in both halves, but could not find the back of the net during the two overtime periods.

Marc Zharnest was pleased with the way his team competed in the match and throughout the season. "For this team, this is the culmination of all their hard work," Zharnest said. "They battled hard which is how they fought all year. I can't wait to see what's next and it was truly an honor to watch them them grow and battle this season. This is the start of good things to come."
The Cardinals (2-11-1) struck first, less than five minutes into the match, as sophomore midfielder Mary Cuevas found freshman forward Gisselle Flores-Barajas, who sprinted on a breakaway and found the back of the net to put the Cardinals up, 1-0.

Dafna Levine guided the ball to second-year midfielder
Elizabeth Pavel in the box, who lined the shot inside the back of the cage for her fourth tally of the year, to tie the match by a score of 1-1.
The Maccabees' momentum continued in the second half, as Levine dribbled the ball through a sea of York defenders and rifled it past the goalkeeper to give the Blue and White a 2-1 lead with 22:33 remaining in regulation time.
YU had a couple of corner kick opportunities during the 75
th minute, but York's defense would not allow the Macs to extend the lead.
The Cardinals tied the match during the 80
th minute, thanks to sophomore defender Taylor Bellmon's 10
th goal of the season.
Yeshiva had a golden opportunity to retake the lead, with 8:04 left to play in the second half, but Pavel's shot hit the post and the ball was cleared by a York defender. With 31 seconds to go, it was the Cardinals' turn to attack, as junior defender Geraldine Guese lined a shot that went wide.
The two teams concluded the second stanza with the score tied, 2-2, so overtime was needed.
With 1:19 remaining in the first overtime period, senior forward
Deborah Frewa propelled a shot that was denied by sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Vasquez. Yeshiva had one last chance in the final 10 seconds of the first extra session, thanks to a corner kick by Pavel, but Yeshiva could not get a shot off before time expired.
The Cardinals had a couple of chances to win the match in the early stages of the second overtime. Junior midfielder Damata Usman wedged a shot on target that was turned aside by sophomore goalkeeper
Shani Kravetz. Bellmon collected the rebound and aimed for her second goal of the match, and the game-winner, but Kravetz made the save to keep the match going.
Yeshiva had a golden opportunity to win it, with just over two minutes to go in the contest, as senior defender
Chana Boltax launched a shot that just went wide. Neither team could produce a shot in the final two minutes, so the back-and-forth match ended in a 2-2 tie.
For Yeshiva, Levine produced three points (a goal and an assist) during the afternoon. Kravetz made eight saves.
York had the advantage in shots, 17-13, as well as corner kicks, 6-5. Vasquez turned-aside three shots for the Cardinals.
The Yeshiva University women's soccer team will return to the pitch in September.
