NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team concluded the 2019 season with a non-conference loss to The City College of New York, 3-0, at the ARC Arena on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were 25-6, 25-12, and 25-19.
The Beavers (11-8) earned convincing victories in the first two sets, but the third game was competitive throughout.
Down 2-0 in the match, a kill by senior right side hitter
Batya Schreier gave the Maccabees (0-18) a 5-1 advantage in the third stanza. With YU up 12-9, the Beavers scored three straight points to tie the set. After Yeshiva fell behind, 15-13, a kill by senior middle blocker
Tehilla Teigman capped off two unanswered points for the Macs to tie the game, 15-15. After the visiting team jumped back in front, Yeshiva took advantage of back-to-back errors by CCNY to go up, 17-16. However, CCNY finished the set on a 9-2 run to clinch the non-conference victory.
For the Maccabees, Teigman slammed home six kills and added three digs. Junior setter
Julie Chase had a team-high three assists to go along with five digs, while junior setter
Brooke Ratner led all players with six digs. Schreier added three kills.
For CCNY, senior outside hitter Nicole Polanco led all players with 13 kills.
It was Senior Day and Yeshiva University honored three graduating seniors from the women's volleyball team,
Ayelet Berger, Teigman, and Schreier, who competed in the final volleyball match of their collegiate careers.
