Women's Basketball Suffers Skyline Loss to Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference contest to Farmingdale State College, 92-82, at the Nold Hall Athletic Complex on Thursday evening. The Maccabees fall to 3-8 overall (2-7 Skyline), while the Rams advance to 4-5 for the season (2-3 Skyline).

Leading the way for the Maccabees was senior forward Tehilla Teigman, who generated her ninth double-double of the season with 27 points and 13 rebounds, while forcing three steals. Freshman guard Yuval Nitzan netted 21 points, distributed seven assists, grabbed four boards, and forced just as many steals.

After falling behind, 8-0, Yeshiva turned it around by scoring 15 unanswered points to jump out to a 15-8 advantage. Nitzan scored eight points during the rally, including two successful shots from downtown. The Maccabees' defense held the Rams to zero field goals in 6:24.

The Rams responded by going on a 11-3 run to take a one-point lead with 34 ticks left in the period. Sophomore forward Mahlia Leventhal countered with a jump shot to put Yeshiva in front again, 20-19, with nine seconds remaining. That would be the score after 10 minutes of play.

Farmingdale shifted momentum towards its favor in the second period, scoring 12 of the quarter's first 14 points to take a commanding 31-22 lead. In fact, FSC led by as many as 17 before going into the intermission with a 47-33 hold.

Yeshiva improved in the third quarter but could not generate a consistent run to get back into the game. The Maccabees played much better in the fourth, outscoring the Rams by a 28-23 margin, but it would not be enough as FSC went on to earn its second conference win of the season.

For the Maccabees, senior guard Chana Boltax added 11 points, including two 3-point field goals, while classmate Adina Rosenberg netted seven points. Third-year forward Lindsay Brandwein grabbed six caroms to go along with four points.

For the Rams, junior guard Anna Zaborowska had a game-high 37 points with eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.

The Maccabees will return to the friendly confines of the ARC Arena on Sunday for a non-conference contest against York College (N.Y.). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
