Softball Drops Two Skyline Games to Mount Saint Vincent

BRONX, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped two Skyline Conference games to the College of Mount Saint Vincent, by scores of 11-1 and 14-1, at Bahoshy Field on Thursday evening. Mount Saint Vincent (9-16, 6-2 Skyline) was the official home team for the two contests.

Yeshiva (1-21, 0-14 Skyline) was held to just three hits in each of the two games.

Mount Saint Vincent came storming out of the gates in game one, scoring four runs in the opening inning to take the lead. Junior center fielder Taylor Wittick produced an RBI double, freshman first baseman Lakisha Camacho followed with a two-run single, and senior left fielder Alexa Moley capped off the productive inning with an RBI base hit.

The Dolphins' lineup continued to produce in the bottom of the second. With runners on first and second, one out, Camacho blasted a three-run homer to straight away center field to give CMSV a commanding 7-0 hold.

Yeshiva managed to get one run back in the third. With a runner on first, and two outs, sophomore second baseman Chana Boltax drilled a double to right center, allowing senior right fielder Sarah Elspas to score all the way from first for Yeshiva's only run of the game. YU's momentum continued, as senior catcher Sarah Hiller singled through the left side to advance Boltax to third. However, Yeshiva could not get a second run across.

Mount Saint Vincent added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, on its way to an 11-1 victory. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Faccilonga earned the win in the circle, as she struck out nine YU batters in three innings. Freshman pitcher Kimberly Medina did not allow a run or a hit, while racking up four strikeouts, in two innings of relief.

For the Maccabees, Elspas drew a walk. Hiller went 2-for-2, while senior center fielder Leah Feder earned a base on balls. Third-year pitcher Samantha Cohen pitched a complete-game but took the loss.

In game two, the Dolphins were held to just five hits, but drew 13 walks.

Yeshiva had an opportunity to take the lead in the first. The Maccabees loaded the bases, thanks to a single by Boltax, sophomore shortstop Miriam Kazlow reaching base with a walk, and a single by junior third baseman Gabi Chutter. However, Medina escaped the jam without giving up a run.

The Dolphins took advantage of their opportunities in the bottom frame, by scoring eight runs. Three of those runs were scored thanks to consecutive walks with the bases loaded.

Yeshiva got one run back in the third, as junior left fielder Basya Goldstein led off the frame with a triple to center field. She ended up scoring on a throwing error by the shortstop.

It would not be enough as Mount Saint Vincent scored four runs in the bottom of the third, and one in the fourth, to earn the sweep.

Boltax pitched a complete-game for the Maccabees but took the loss. Medina was credited with the win for CMSV, as she struck out three batters in two innings. Freshman pitcher Kayla Pagano pitched three innings in relief, giving up just one run and fanning three YU batters.

Yeshiva will return to Bahoshy Field, on Sunday evening, for a Skyline Conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's College Long Island, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
