Women's Tennis Drops Regular Season Finale to St. Joseph's College Long Island

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's tennis team fell short in its regular season finale to St. Joseph's College Long Island, 6-3, at the USTA National Tennis Center on Thursday evening. The Maccabees now fall to 4-3 in the conference, and 5-4 overall, as they will await their fate regarding a potential berth in the Skyline Conference Championships. The Golden Eagles advance to 1-0 in league play and 3-1 overall.

"These last two matches were tough losses," Yeshiva University Head Coach Danielle Carr said. "Losses are always tough, but they are learning experiences. We have come to the end of a long, intense, tennis (regular) season. Everyone put in a tremendous amount of effort and dedication and we could not be more proud of them."

The Golden Eagles won all three doubles flights, but the Maccabees claimed three of the six singles matches. It was not enough as their rally fell short. Senior Bailey Frohlich earned a hard-fought victory in a tiebreaker at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (6). Classmate Michal Ladenheim won every game at No. 5 singles, while first-year player Deborah Frewa claimed the sixth position, 6-2, 6-0.

It was senior night as graduating seniors Frohlich, Shana Adler, Frewa, Ladenheim, Alexa Hymowitz, and Amanda Berlin were honored with a ceremony after the match.

"This was a special night because these are special seniors," Carr said. "Quite a few of these seniors were on the roster that made history in being the first women's team in school history to make it to the NCAA Tournament. They have represented the team, the University, and most importantly, themselves, well. It is bittersweet to see these women leave, as it ends a chapter in Yeshiva women's tennis. However, it also opens a new chapter, one of rebuilding, continued growth, development, and eventual success for seasons to come."
