RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference contest to the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 78-38, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Sunday evening. The Maccabees fall to 6-14 overall (3-12 Skyline), while the Dolphins bump their record to 11-9 for the season (9-7 Skyline).
Leading the way for the Maccabees was freshman guard
Yuval Nitzan, who scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out a pair of assists, and forced just as many steals. Sophomore forward
Mahlia Leventhal brought down a team-high seven rebounds, while junior forward
Lindsay Brandwein clutched six caroms to go along with four points.
The Macs kept the game close in the early stages of the contest, as a layup by Nitzan pulled YU to within two, at 9-7, with 4:10 to go in the opening period. Yeshiva finished the first quarter on a high note, as a 3-point field goal by sophomore guard
Jessie Orgel narrowed Mount Saint Vincent's lead to 16-12, with 51 ticks left on the clock. That would be the score after 10 minutes of play.
The Dolphins blew the game open in the second quarter, outscoring the Maccabees by a 22-2 margin, to take a commanding lead they would not surrender, on their way to the conference victory.
