Women's Tennis Edged by John Jay College

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's tennis team suffered a heartbreaking non-conference loss to John Jay College, 5-4, at the USTA National Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.

The match was tied, 4-4, and it came down to sophomore Liana Friedman's No. 4 singles flight. Friedman battled but just fell short, 9-7, clinching the win for the Bloodhounds who bump their record to 3-5.

Note: Each singles match was scored via one-set doubles scoring style. The first to eight points would be declared the winner of the flight (with a margin of victory having to be at least two points).

The Maccabees (1-7) won two out of three doubles flights, including a victory at the first position by juniors Elisheva Gofman and Esther Ackerman, 8-3.

In singles play, Ackerman won at the first flight, 8-1. She remains unbeaten in singles competition at 6-0.

Yeshiva will conclude the fall season on Sunday, with a non-conference matchup against Pratt Institute, at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
