PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference contest to St. Joseph's College Long Island, 86-59, at the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.
Leading the way for the Maccabees was junior
Yuval Nitzan who scored 24 points and brought down six rebounds. Junior
Daniella Rothman tallied 11 points, snatched seven rebounds, and blocked three shots. Sophomore
Shai Rahamim added 11 points. Graduate student
Miriam Kazlow had five points and brought down a team-high nine boards.
The Maccabees fell behind early, but back-to-back 3-point field goals by Nitzan tied the game at 10 points apiece. The Golden Eagles finished the opening quarter on a 15-4 run to take a commanding 25-14 hold after 10 minutes of play.
Yeshiva had a strong start to the second quarter as back-to-back successful jump shots by Rothman, and a 3-point basket from Rahamim, highlighted an 11-4 run to narrow YU's deficit to 29-25 with 6:09 left to play in the half. After the Golden Eagles scored the next five points, YU countered with a 5-0 run of its own. Nitzan began the blitz with a shot from downtown and Rahamim's jumper pulled YU to within four, at 34-30, with 2:52 left before the break.Â
St. Joseph's shifted momentum into its favor by finishing the opening half with a 14-2 run to take a commanding 48-32 hold into the break.
The Maccabees were not able to get back into the game during the second stanza, as the Golden Eagles pulled away to earn the conference win.Â
For Yeshiva, junior
Renee Benjamini had four points, three rebounds, and two assists. Classmate
Noa Berkowitz had six rebounds and two steals, while rookieÂ
Yael Dannenbaum netted two points and secured a carom.
For St. Joseph's, junior Alyssa Adomaites led all scorers with 32 points, while senior Alyssa Signor had a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Yeshiva's Skyline road trip continues on Thursday evening, at Sarah Lawrence College, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
