Women's Volleyball Concludes 2021 Season With Strong Defensive Match Against City College

NEW YORK – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team concluded the 2021 season with a hard-fought loss to the City College of New York, in straight sets, at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were 25-10, 25-13, and 25-14.

CCNY led from wire-to-wire in the first set. During the second, a kill by Shira Sredni put Yeshiva in front, 3-1. Later in the game, after the Beavers jumped ahead, a service ace by Aleesa Elbaum and a kill from Hannah Aaron highlighted a 5-1 run that shrunk YU's deficit to 18-12. However, the visiting team finished the set on a 7-1 run to go up 2-0 in the match.

In the third stanza, kills by Aaron and Sredni catapulted Yeshiva to a 4-2 advantage. City College answered with five straight points to jump back in front. A few rallies later, Sredni scored a service ace to narrow the opposition's lead to 10-9. The Beavers produced a 12-3 run to take a commanding lead. Sredni and Aaron each scored a kill during the late stages of the set, but it would not be enough as CCNY went on to earn the match-victory.

For the afternoon, Suzanne Wallach concluded her collegiate career with a match-high 11 digs. She also had a kill and an assist. Ashley Botnick had a strong match defensively with seven digs and recorded an assist. Sredni had four kills, just as many digs, and a service ace, while Zoey Botnick produced six assists, four digs, and an ace. Hannah had three kills, an assist, and a pair of digs. Devorah Batt had a kill and a dig, while Tali Miller had a dig of her own. Elbaum scored two service aces and recorded a dig.

The Maccabees will return to the court in 2022.
