RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference contest to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 73-40, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center on Sunday afternoon.

Leading the way for the Maccabees was sophomore Shai Rahamim who netted 14 points and went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. She also grabbed three rebounds and forced two steals. Junior Yuval Nitzan tallied seven points, forced a game-high four steals, and distributed three assists. Classmate Daniella Rothman had a solid game with six points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots, while junior Renee Benjamini netted six points, snatched seven boards, and dished out a pair of assists. Second-year player Gabrielle Kupferman had five points and two rebounds.

The Mariners led the game from wire-to-wire. The Maccabees had their moments in the third quarter, as Nitzan set up Rahamim's successful shots from downtown on three separate occasions during the stanza.

Senior Miriam Kazlow made both of her free throws for the Maccabees during the game. Senior Jennie Mellman blocked a shot and brought down a board in her season debut. Juniors Nina Yurovsky and Yael Dannenbaum each grabbed a rebound of their own.

Merchant Marine was led by rookie Grace Jackson who tallied a double-double with 31 points and 16 rebounds, while dishing out four assists and forcing three steals.

Yeshiva will travel to Long Island on Thursday evening to take on Five Towns College in a non-conference matchup. Tipoff at the Five Towns College Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
