EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Yeshiva University softball team dropped its exhibition game to Monroe College, 19-1, at Veterans Field Park on Thursday evening.
Leading the way for the Maccabees was senior pitcher
Miriam Kazlow, who went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and two singles. She also scored YU's lone run. In the circle, Kazlow struck out five opposing batters in five innings pitched.
Junior catcher
Marlene Levy added two singles in three plate appearances, while first-year second baseman
Elisheva Miller also reached base with a single. Sophomore shortstop
Esther Miller worked a walk.
After giving up an unearned run in the top of the first, Kazlow tripled in the bottom frame and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. However, the Mustangs were able to build their lead in the second and third innings. Yeshiva held the opposing lineup scoreless during the final two innings.
For Monroe, freshman pitcher Angelina Perez racked up seven strikeouts to earn the complete-game victory.
The Yeshiva University softball team will return to the field in 2022.
