BRONX – It was a special night for the Yeshiva University women's soccer team as the Maccabees earned a hard-fought tie against the Lightning of Lehman College, 1-1, at the South Field on Tuesday evening. With Yeshiva trailing 1-0 in the 71
st minute, junior
Alayna Higdon executed a corner kick that landed in the box. Off the scramble, sophomore
Linda Dayan wedged the ball into the back of the cage to even the match at one goal apiece, with 19:16 left to play in regulation time. That would end up being the final score.
"This team has all the pieces and they've been slowly putting it together," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Jose Maria Aberasturi said. "Tonight, they were rewarded for their hard work."
Both teams had 10 shots apiece, with Lehman (2-10-1) having the narrow edge in shots on goal, 9-8. Yeshiva produced the only two corner kicks in the match, with the second attempt leading to the match-tying goal.
In net for the Maccabees, junior

Ariel Melnitsky registered a pair of shots on net.
"I've been a part of this team now for a few years and time and time again, they continue to improve throughout the year and show up for their seniors," Yeshiva University Assistant Coach
Marc Zharnest said. "This is another example of a team determined to pull out a good result, as they kept pushing and fighting until the goal was scored. They play for each other, they care about each other, and tonight they earned a great result. I couldn't be prouder to be around them and to be a part of this program. I can't wait to see what's next."
For the Lightning, sophomore goalkeeper Josefina Flores stopped eight shots. Freshman Maria Martiniez tallied Lehman's lone goal of the evening during the ninth minute of the contest.
