KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team dropped its Skyline Conference contest to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 68-41, at Liebertz Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Leading the way for the Maccabees (1-3, 1-2 Skyline) was junior
Shai Rahamim who netted 14 points, grabbed a pair of rebounds, dished out just as many assists, and forced a steal. Senior
Yuval Nitzan tallied 10 points, collected four steals, delivered three assists, and had two boards. Classmate
Daniella Rothman added six points, six rebounds, three steals, and an assist. Senior
Gabrielle Kupferman generated six points, two rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Rahamim opened the scoring with a layup to give Yeshiva an early advantage. However, Merchant Marine (3-0, 1-0 Skyline) scored the next eight points to take the lead for good. The second quarter was big for the Mariners as they outscored the Maccabees, 21-10, during those 10 minutes. Yeshiva could not get back into it as Merchant Marine went on to win its conference opener.
For Yeshiva, rookie
Abigail Koenig had five points, delivered a pair of assists, and had a steal. Newcomer
Mia Denti grabbed three rebounds, while freshman
Jasmin Maly-Danker provided three boards, a block, and a steal.
For Merchant Marine, three players tallied double-doubles. Junior Bryanne Buchanan-Cummings had 25 points and 18 rebounds. Senior Lauren Hunter produced 16 points and 18 boards. Classmate Madison Demos had 10 points and just as many rebounds.
Yeshiva will host Mount Saint Mary College, in a Skyline matchup at ARC Arena, next Tuesday evening. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
