Women's Volleyball Concludes 2022 Season With Hard-Fought Loss to King's College N.Y.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. – The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team closed out the 2022 season with a non-conference loss to King's College N.Y., in straight sets, at All Sports Academy on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were 25-5, 25-15, and 25-23.

King's College (7-8) led from wire-to-wire during each of the first two sets. In the third stanza, senior Emily Zrihen provided back-to-back service aces to give the Maccabees (2-16) a 2-0 advantage. Later in the set, senior Gabrielle Kupferman slammed home a kill and then scored a service ace to inflate YU's lead to 7-4. The Lions countered with a 5-1 run to jump ahead, 9-8. After falling behind by two, YU came storming back as a kill by Kupferman highlighted four straight points to help the Macs regain the lead, 15-13. King's answered with an 8-2 rally to put Yeshiva in a 21-17 hole.

YU would not go down without a fight as kills by Zrihen and rookie Shany Elmaleh sandwiched a 3-0 run to narrow Junior its deficit to 21-20. After falling behind, 23-20, Yeshiva scored three points in a row, thanks to a kill by Zrihen and then an ace and a kill courtesy of Elmaleh to tie it up at 23 points apiece. However, King's scored the final two points to clinch the set and the match.

For the Maccabees, Kupferman finished with six kills and a pair of service aces. Elmaleh notched five kills and 10 digs. Aleesa Elbaum led all players with 12 digs and added an assist. Zrihen generated three kills, four service aces, and a dig. Junior Ashley Botnick tallied seven digs, a kill, an assist, and a service ace. Senior Tali Miller chipped in on defense with five digs, and then added five assists and a kill on the offensive end. Junior Zoey Botnick produced five assists and two digs. Seniors Devorah Batt and Sara Chemel each scored a kill.

The Yeshiva University women's volleyball team will return to the court in 2023.
