Women's Basketball Falls to Manhattanville in Skyline Matchup

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team fell in its Skyline Conference contest to Manhattanville College, 76-48, at Kennedy Gymnasium on Thursday evening.

Yeshiva (1-5, 1-4 Skyline) kept it close in the first half, but Manhattanville (6-0, 3-0 Skyline) outscored YU, 42-20, in the final 20 minutes of play.

Leading the way for the Maccabees was senior Daniella Rothman who notched her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while blocking four shots, delivering just as many assists, and forcing a steal.

Classmate Yuval Nitzan netted 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, delivered an assist, and blocked a shot. Rookie Jasmin Maly-Danker had an impressive game for the Maccabees with 10 points.

In the opening quarter, Nitzan buried a pair of free throws to give Yeshiva a 9-7 advantage with 6:03 left.  The Valiants scored the next six points to take a four-point lead. The Maccabees answered as a triple by Nitzan, and then a jumper from junior Shai Rahamim, propelled YU back in front, 14-13, with 3:04 left in the first stanza.

After Manhattanville scored the next basket, Nitzan found Rothman who drained a 3-point field goal to put the Macs back in front, 17-15, with 1:03 left to go. Manhattanville scored the final five points of the period to regain the advantage, 20-17.

Yeshiva scored the first four points of the second, capped off by a layup from Maly-Danker, to give the Blue and White a 21-20 advantage with 8:07 left to play in the half. Manhattanville scored the next six points to take the lead for good at 26-21, with 6:11 left in the first half. The Macs managed to slice the deficit to one, but then Manhattanville finished the period with an 8-3 run to go into the intermission with a 34-28 advantage.

Manhattanville scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a commanding 44-28 hold. That would put the game out of reach for Yeshiva as the Valiants went on to earn the Skyline victory.

For YU, Rahamim and senior Gabrielle Kupferman each scored six points, with the former distributing three assists, grabbing two rebounds, and forcing two steals, and the latter bringing down two boards and blocking a shot.

For Manhattanville, senior Julianna Kascic had a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Yeshiva will host Farmingdale State College, in a Skyline Conference matchup at ARC Arena, on Saturday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
