BROOKLYN – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team closed out the 2021-22 season with an impressive road victory over Pratt Institute, 66-52, at the Pratt Athletics and Recreation Center on Tuesday evening. Yeshiva finishes the year with an 8-15 record, while Pratt drops to 5-12.
Leading the way for the Maccabees was rookie sensation
Daniella Bessler, who tallied a team-high 16 points, while grabbing five rebounds, forcing four steals, and dishing out three assists. Junior
Daniella Rothman tallied her 12
th double-double of the season with 10 points and 16 rebounds, while distributing three assists and forcing two steals. Sophomore
Shai Rahamim had a big game with 13 points, five assists, four steals, and three boards. Junior
Yuval Nitzan netted 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and delivered a pair of assists. Graduate student
Miriam Kazlow had a strong game off the bench with eight points and seven rebounds.
"The team played as one and played for each other to send our seniors out with a win," Yeshiva University Head Coach
Bill Zatulskis said.
With Yeshiva up 9-7 early in the game, Bessler buried a 3-point basket that began a 7-0 YU run, capped off by a pair of free throws from Rahamim, to give the Maccabees a 16-7 hold with 3:40 to go in the opening quarter.
Leading 16-10 heading into the second quarter, Kazlow drained a triple that sparked nine unanswered points for the Maccabees to give them a 25-10 benefit with 5:40 to go in the half. Both teams went into the locker room with YU leading 32-20.
In the third period, Rahamim connected on a 3-point basket to equal Yeshiva's largest lead of the night, at 43-24, with 3:54 to go. Pratt could not get the deficit down to less than nine points for the remainder of the game as YU went on to win the season finale by a score of 66-52.
For Yeshiva, junior
Gabrielle Kupferman had three points and just as many rebounds. Sophomore
Kira Elbaum produced two points and five boards, while junior
Renee Benjamini added two points and four rebounds.
For Pratt, graduate student Katy O'Connor had a double-double with 19 points and 25 rebounds, while blocking four shots. Senior Sophie Bischoff tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks. Freshman Kylie Grant netted 11 points, dished out four assists, forced three steals, and brought down two rebounds.
