Turell Voted NABC Division III National Player of the Year

KANSAS CITY - Senior Ryan Turell has been voted as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III National Player of the Year. The Los Angeles native also earned a spot on the NABC All-America first team. The organization made the announcement on Thursday morning.

It has been an incredible career for Turell, as he helped lead the Maccabees to two Skyline Conference Championships, two victories in the 2019-20 NCAA Tournament, a No. 1 national ranking in the D3hoops.com Men's Top 25 National Poll, and a 50-game winning streak from 2019 until 2021.

Turell finishes his illustrious career at YU with a school all-time best 2,158 career points. This year, he set the school's all-time single-season scoring record with 786 points, while shooting 58.7% from the field and 46.8% from deep. Turell led all three NCAA Divisions with 27.1 points per game. The two-time D3hoops All-America first team honoree scored at least 20 points in 25 out of 29 games played this year and netted at least 30 points nine times during the season. He scored a program all-time single-game best 51 points during YU's victory over Manhattanville College, back on November 28.

Earlier this week, Turell advanced to the Top 25 Watch List for the Bevo Francis Award.

On Tuesday morning, Turell told ESPN's Jonathan Givony that he will declare for the 2022 NBA Draft.

"When Ryan committed to us, people asked 'do you really think he will be THAT good at the college level?' We knew this day was coming," Yeshiva University Head Coach Elliot Steinmetz said. "Don't ever doubt this young man, his work ethics, his drive, or his commitment to excellence on and off the court. He is special."
