Yeshiva (5-9, 4-7 Skyline) settles for a spilt with Mount Saint Vincent (4-9, 4-5 Skyline) this season after the Maccabees won a five-set thriller over the Dolphins, at Max Stern Athletic Center, back on March 8.
After dropping the first two games, YU trailed 10-6 in the third stanza. However, a kill by senior
Benjamin Goldstein sparked an 8-1 run, capped off by a kill from classmate
Alon Jakubowitz, to propel the Macs to a 14-11 advantage. Senior
Benjamin Smillie also had back-to-back kills during Yeshiva's rally.
The Dolphins shifted momentum into their favor by scoring five of the set's next six points to jump out in front, 16-15. Jakubowitz and Smillie answered by combining for back-to-back kills to allow YU to reclaim the advantage, 17-16. After YU fell behind again, the Macs managed to tie it up at 18 points apiece. From that point on, Mount Saint Vincent finished the game on a 7-2 run to win the stanza, 25-20, and clinch the match in three straight sets.
For YU, Smillie had five kills, six digs, and a pair of assists. Goldstein tallied nine assists and three digs. Jakubowitz slammed home five kills, while junior
Shmuel Aberman produced three kills, an assist, and a block. Senior
